Higher education in Germany has also become virtually free and the tuition fees are entirely waived for all students with respect to undergraduate studies.

However, there are some changes that have taken place in this regard during the past couple of years. A relatively low tuition fee has been charged (the amount, around €500 per semester, was set by respective Federal States) citing the fact that it is necessary to maintain the general quality of services and the other related infrastructure facilities. Even with these tuition fees higher education is still significantly less expensive than in most of the other developed western countries.
