Income requirement for the New Parent Visa in Australia!

Good news for Parents!

Mr. David Coleman, the minister for Immigration, Citizenship, and Multicultural Affairs, has announced very recently about a new temporary sponsored visa that is designed to allow the parents of migrants to spend a long time in Australia with their children! Sponsorship applications for new Parent Visa are being accepted from 17th April 2019 onwards. Once it is approved the parents of the migrants will be able to submit the application for Parent Visa. Migrants whose taxable income is $83,454.80 are only eligible to sponsor their parents for the temporary sponsored parent visa.

Australia will begin accepting Parent Visa applications from 1st July 2019. The Subclass 870 (Temporary Sponsored Parent Visa) permits parents and grandparents to live in Australia for up to 5 years continuously. Once they reside in Australia for five years, they would be eligible to renew their Visa for another term of five years. Consequently, this Visa will facilitate the migrants to reunite with their families and live with them in Australia for up to 10 years. Until now there has been no clarification regarding the income requirement for the second 5-year term. The application fee for Parent Visa (3 years) is $5000 and the sponsorship fee is $420. The big relief, however, as per news sources is that the required total income of $83,454.80 can be inclusive of the joint family income

Most of the migrants in Australia are however not pleased with the outcome. They lament that the new Parent Visa has a lot of conditions attached. These conditions are considered more stringent than Visitor Visa. In order to apply for this visa, it is mandatory to purchase health insurance. Most of the migrants feel that that Parent Visa is discriminatory because of its expensive price.
