Submit an Express Entry profile: What to do while you wait in the pool
There are some changes to Canada’s Express Entry system, and while you wait in the pool these are some of the things you could be doing!
For instance, it is now possible to earn up to 50 additional points for strong French language skills, and this is the case even if French is your second language.
New application deadline
Candidates who receive an invitation to apply on or after June 29, 2021 must submit their application for permanent residence within 60 days.
What can you do while you’re in the pool?
While you wait in the pool, keep checking your mail, and get ready to accept an invitation to apply. Once you are invited to apply, you will have to submit a completed application within 60 days.
Here are 6 things you can do while you wait.
Keep your documents ready
There’s no better time to start than now! Having your documents ready will make it easier to apply within 60 days.
Prepare for and take the Language tests
If you have already completed the language tests ahead of time, make sure that you check to ensure that your language test results are valid. They will stay valid for 2 years after the date of the test result. They must also be valid on the date you apply for permanent residence.
In case your results expire before then, you should be tested again or apply before your test results expire (if possible) or decline the invitation and go back into the pool to be considered in the future.
If you apply for permanent residence with language test results that have expired, your application will be rejected.
Police certificates
You and any of your family members who are 18 years old or older will have to get clearance certificates from the police. The list of police certificates required is available at this link. This might take time, and it would be sensible to keep them ready so that when you get your invitation to apply you will not waste time.
Find a job with Job Match
While you wait, you can start your job search by creating a Job Match account with Job Bank. This is a database that can help match you with employers looking for workers with your skills.
Keep the Job Seeker validation code you received when you submitted your profile, as you will require this now. After coming to Canada, you can keep using Job Bank to find a job.
Here’s how you can sign up with Job Bank!
Try to improve your score
There are many things that you can do to improve your score and increase your chances of getting selected. The score details can be checked here. Try to do any or all of these:
Get a valid job offer by:
- using Job Bank
- promoting yourself to employers in Canada using private-sector job boards
- Contact provinces and territories to consider you for a Provincial Nominee Program
- Improve your language score
- Enhance your education
- Gain more relevant work experience
- Update your profile
The information in your profile must, at all times, stay true and accurate. Keep updating it if your situation changes, for instance if you start a new career, gain or lose a job offer, get a new language test, get married or divorced, or have or adopt a new child.
If your information is not matching your current situation, you run the risk of your application being rejected being found inadmissible getting barred for 5 years from applying to come to Canada for any reason
Good luck with your Canadian application!
